Our Destination Has Only One Runway

I wish to report the following four facts

  • It's hard to use a computer in the back of my airplane while in flight, because it's bright and bumpy and you can't see or control the mouse pointer.
  • You can't see anything useful on the ground outside from the back.
  • CYMJ is not the identifier for Moose Jaw Municipal Airport.
  • Canadian military controllers are very understanding of navigational errors
This is all I wish to report on this topic.

So was everyone in the back checking google maps and you just told the autopilot to go to CYMJ? Or was someone at the controls in the front? Or was the one in the front doing something like this and the basic piloting had to be done in the back? This post leaves much to our imagination...

Who'd have figured little Moose Jaw would have two airports so close with such similar names?

I am reminded of an occasion about 15 years ago, when some business visitors had flown down to LHR, and took a taxi to get to our office.

They asked the taxi to take them to "Hook", which is where we were... unfortunately, the driver took them to ANOTHER Hook, a few miles away.

So, you see, ANYONE can make a simple mistake!

Wow! ZB is right... that leaves a lot to the imagination. :) I can't imagine our Aviatrix making a mistake like this so it MUST have been another pilot but based on more than a year of reading your posts I can imagine how you would deal with making a mistake like that. Mainly hours and hours of self-induced remedial study of airport identifiers and not a little guilt.

I guess if you have to get lost, you'd better do it in style... According to Wikipedia, CFB Moose Jaw is not only "home to all pilot training conducted by the Canadian Forces" but also home to the Snowbirds, Canada's military aerobatics or air show flight demonstration team.

And CFB Moose Jaw is just south of the Municipal Airport as I recall...pretty short hop from Regina though!
