Which one do you save?"

That's a bizarre question. I suppose it could rattle one to imagine the dilemma and try to rationalize a choice. I'd struggle with justifying my choice without giving them too much information about "how I feel about my mother".

Is that a typical aviation job interview question? Not, "your mother, a ravenous tiger and a duck are on a river bank. Your boat only will hold two of them.... "

I'm fortunate to have had exactly one vaguely formal, yet friendly job interview. There were no too-clever questions.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09991660841701835065noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-14670929788164171512010-02-25T23:39:59.720+00:002010-02-25T23:39:59.720+00:00I think they were just interested in me choosing a...I think they were just interested in me choosing a way to answer it and then demonstrating a knowledge of both. Another question from the same interview was "your mother and child are both drowning and you can save only one. You can respond, as you initially did with a theoretical/philosphoy of design bent of mind, or pick out one of about a million technological ways they differ, or go for some simple hard facts like one of the other posters mentioned (high altitude vs. low altitude), etc. etc.. etc....

My inner urge might be a smart-ass "how much time do we have?" ... but then maybe I'd be smart enough to go with asking the questioner some questions to pin down the question: "Do you mean the control & operational aspects to a pilot in the flight deck, or did you want me to talk about the differences in the general structure and philosophy of design, materials and functions, or their suitability, and limitations in specific kinds of applications? ...." ;-)

Anyone asking a question like that is then free to "interpret" your answer any way they like based on their preconceived notions of whether they like you already or not. Then justify their pre-judgements.Grantnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-19302200517847958322010-02-25T16:59:12.832+00:002010-02-25T16:59:12.832+00:00I was often asked to explain jet engine workings w...I was often asked to explain jet engine workings when hosting RAF Recruiting events with sectioned engines on dispay .
