Most of the North has satellite coverage, but it's a suboptimal way of detecting quick-forming, fast-moving weather phenomena (like thunderstorms). I'm amazed that the meteorologists get their forecasts correct as often as they do.

Canadian Weather RadarDataPilothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11478857340951784073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-88268084712450783192013-07-11T12:18:46.694+00:002013-07-11T12:18:46.694+00:00Dear Trix:

I deviate towards a lighter area..."

I am not sure that XM Weather (or any of the other on-board NEXRAD display systems) provides good coverage up in the areas of the frozen North that you frequent, but if they do, you gotta get it...for just such cases as you describe here. It is not a wx penetration tool but it gives you super situational awareness regarding the wx over a large area...strategic as opposed to tactical.

For an example of how it helps me, look HERE if you care to.

Best,

FrankFrank Van Hastehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10821687850881538546noreply@blogger.com
