This let's me fly with PPL privledges for 18 more months after the ATPL 6 month interval lapses. But at my last medical I thought I'd save a few bucks and skip the EGT...

To my surprise TC then re-issued me a new PPL licence booklet (at the changeover in Canada), rather than the ATPL with "lapsed" status that I had expected.

I quickly got an EKG done and then called TC to get the licence bumped up again to ATPL status, just in case I should decide to go back to work in a hurry.

There's a big difference between a "lapsed" ATPL that only needs a fresh medical to kick it back up, and a PPL, especially if a "too good to pass up" job opportunity arises.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-27868532736925571322011-02-27T19:54:44.770+00:002011-02-27T19:54:44.770+00:00I let mine laps in December, being on the perpetua...I let mine laps in December, being on the perpetual job hunt myself.

I think I am going to try and get it renewed next week though... As you rightly point out, there are so many reasons to keeping the medical certificate current, the most important, being able to fly (or type train) tomorrow, should the opportunity arise. Frankly, it is no different from keeping everything else in your 'flight bag' current and available. Some callit common sense, others call is professional responsibility. As you also point out, professionals seeking active engagements, but with lapsed credentials ARE suspect, a place you do not want to go.
