It was my guess as well, but since that had nothing to do with the aviation clues, and everything to do with data from other channels (which 'trix may recall) I had to disqualify myself.

One of my favorite Canadian cities, though I don't get to spend enough time there. Having a downtown airport is a real asset to such a city, I hope they are still supporting it as they were the last time I visited. Toronto could really learn something from Edmonton. Two things if you include hockey.nec Timidehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03017143602023726206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-69984612867528826082008-03-26T15:05:00.000Z2008-03-26T15:05:00.000ZNice link, silver horde!Nice link, silver horde!Lord Huttonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10243668575631936439noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-31254755399999782022008-03-25T19:55:00.000Z2008-03-25T19:55:00.000Zhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7313093.stmYea!...http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7313093.stm

Yea!silver hordehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08495147211713075126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-51686192055874360892008-03-25T17:03:00.000Z2008-03-25T17:03:00.000ZMy boy is having his first flying lessom on Thursd...My boy is having his first flying lessom on Thursday. I was only holding off because I was curious how many other cafés had been named after runways that had been renamed.

I like the way Aluwings explained the answer, so that the non-pilots can see that all these standardized bits of pavement have their unique personalities.

Has anyone ever seen an airport establishment named "Runway 37"? Seems like a good name, in the spirit of "The 19th Hole."Aviatrixhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13634111275860140084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10000144.post-33097536962660217792008-03-25T14:36:00.000Z2008-03-25T14:36:00.000ZI'm actually more curious about "guessing the airc...I'm actually more curious about "guessing the aircraft". CYYZ has, or used to have something like this, but although the south runways are called 23s, the north runway is still named 24...

- but two diverging runways with the same first digit? eliminates YYZ. The island might possibly be a contender, but no hotel across the street. Probably no maintenance facilities to speak of either?

- still in the grips of winter: eliminates YVR, but so did other criteria.

I'm thinking that the YXD guess is correct. Runway 29 is now called 30. There is an ILS approach on rwy 34, but landing on 30 gives a much more convenient airport operation.

And Edmonton is known for winter, and glorious flying weather if you can stand the cold!

I'm throwing my hat in with David.
